Editors Choice – Greenworks G Max 40 Volt

Greenworks 8.5' 40V Cordless Pole Saw, 2.0 AH Battery Included 20672

Several users consider this to be the best pole saw in 2019. It simply packs a ton of value at a very competitive price.  And unlike the EGO pole saw, the Greenworks G Max 40v Pole Saw does not come as a separate attachment, but is sold as a fully contained, ready to go – out of the box – battery powered pole saw.

With guaranteed instant electric start, this tool is lighter than gasoline models and also produces less noise and vibration. It weighs 7.8 pounds, with weight increasing to 12.75 pounds when fully extended to 9 feet and with the battery attached. The total reach is up to 11 feet in addition to your normal reach height.

The tool-less chain tension feature is going to make your job a lot easier, especially if you’re trying to save money and time while trimming all your trees. It’s quite easy to assemble and features an auto oiler to keep your chain lubricated. There’s also a special gauge that tells you how much battery life you have left.

Unlike other cordless models, this one feels a little bit heavy and doesn’t have a shoulder strap so it might be challenging to control for less muscle-bound folks. It features a pad that minimizes vibration and jarring. This is the best pole saw for branches up to 6 inches in diameter, but won’t work as well as a few others we rated, for larger limbs.

Key features of this model include:

  • Adjustable length to reach higher and lower branches.
  • Tool-less chain tension.
  • Easy assembly.

Customer Comments:

  • A little heavier than some other models
  • Maximum limb size to cut is 6″ vs. EGO at 10″ diameter
  • Doesn’t work as well on larger branches over 6″

Oregon Cordless PS250 8-Inch 40V Telescoping Pole Saw with 2.6Ah Battery and Charger

“Best Premium Pole Saw”: Although the Oregon PS250 comes with a hefty price tag, it’s the right tool for heavy-duty jobs. It comes with a 40 Volt Lithium-Ion 2.4 Ah battery and charger, but you can easily attach the 4 Ah or 6 Ah to use it as a more efficient longer running power pole saw. EGO Power PSA1000 – “Cordless” Pole Saw Tool System

EGO PSA1000 10-Inch Pole Saw Attachment 56-Volt Lithium-ion Power Head System

The EGO Brand of tools is considered one of the top brands of cordless power tools on the market, and in our opinion, happens to make one of the top-rated cordless pole saws as well. The water-resistant construction and highest-quality parts ensure remarkable performance.

Also, because of its 56-volt battery system (available separately), the EGO chainsaw is commonly rated as the best cordless power pole saw you can buy. The automated chain lubrication system of this machine also lets you work without interruption.

Because the EGO 10-inch pole saw is sold as an “attachment” and is part of the EGO powerhead system, you will need to purchase the compatible EGO PH1400 – “PowerHead” Separately to operate it. The EGO powerhead is used for multiple tools like string trimmers, etc. in The EGO lineup of tools. You can see all these options when you click on any link here to Amazon.

Remington RM1025SPS Ranger 8-Amp Electric 2-in-1 Pole Saw & Chainsaw with 10-Foot Telescoping Shaft and 10-Inch Bar for Tree Trimming and Pruning

Most “Versatile” Chainsaw: Looking for the best electric pole saw but could also benefit from a lightweight chainsaw as well? One of the most popular pole saws on Amazon – The Remington 2 – in 1 model quickly transforms from a pole saw to a chainsaw only, with no tools required. The 10″ blade pole saw itself can be extended to reach 10 feet. With the user standing, you can cut branches positioned 15-17 feet above the ground in no time.

This model is electrically “Corded” power, so it’s more affordable than cordless models, but you’ll have to make sure that there’s a power outlet nearby so you can use your extension cord. The telescoping design guarantees that adjusting the height of the pole saw will be easy and hassle-free.
It’s designed to keep the user comfortable with an anti-rotation shaft and a non-slip grip.

The best pole chainsaw “combo” on Amazon measures 12.4 pounds and works on smaller branches as well as logs. It’s not self-lubricating and will limit the user’s movement due to the presence of the extension cord, unlike cordless models. For the average homeowner on a budget or with a small – to medium size yard, this may be the best tool (or combination tool) sold for tree trimming on the market.

By the way, you may not believe the price on this tool – we barely did! It is under $70 and were it not for its extension cord limitation, we would have placed this model as our Best Value as well. And the really great news – No Spark Plugs to worry about!

Key Features of this product

  • Versatile chainsaw and pole saw combo.
  • Tackles branches and logs quickly up to 8″ diameter
  • Adjustable telescoping design.
  • Anti-rotation shaft and a non-slip grip for the user’s comfort.

  • Leaks oil if stored upside down
  • Less powerful electric chainsaw- 8 amp electrical corded power

Ryobi ONE+ Economical “Cordless” Pole Saw

Ryobi ONE+ 8 in. 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Pole Saw - 1.3 Ah Battery and Charger Included

Best Ryobi Battery System Pole Saw: This 8” Cordless Pole Saw from Ryobi is an excellent value for the money if you already use the Ryobi battery system. It also comes with the Ryobi battery and charger if you don’t already use their system.  Some other cordless pole saw brands sell the battery and charger separately.

The Ryobi operates with a generous 6.5-foot or 9.5-foot tool extension pole, which is a little bit shorter than some, but longer than the best value Sun Joe model.

It trims branches up to 6 inches in diameter quite well and features an angled cutting head so you can easily control your machine and remove branches in tight corners.

You can easily view the oil level in the fluid window and add more to keep the chain lubricated.

Remington RM2599 –  Best “Gas Powered” Pole Saw

Remington RM2599 Maverick 25cc 2-Cycle 8-Inch Gas Pole Saw

Best “Gas” Powered Pole Saw:  For the die-hard traditionalists out there who want to invest in a Gas Powered vs. a Battery-Powered or Electric Corded Pole Saw, the Remington RM2599 is definitely your best choice for value and price.

This 28cc 2-Cycle Gas Pole Saw is able to cut branches positioned 12 feet off the ground with ease, thanks to its 7-foot extension pole. The other conveniences like an auto oiler will keep the chain lubricated, and the 28cc motor has more than enough power to provide low kickback (chain grab or stall) for maximum convenience.

There is a removable section so you can work at different lengths. The Remington RM2599 motor also accommodates other attachments to turn your pole saw to a garden cultivator, leaf blower, and hedge trimmer.  It comes with easy to understand instructions so you can use this versatile tool for all gardening tasks.

This pole saw is heavier than other models weighing around 17 pounds so it’s less convenient to carry around for folks less inclined to heavier tools. Also, gas-powered models require regular maintenance, so you should take this into consideration, especially if you’re a beginner.  Gas-powered equipment is also noisy compared to cordless pole saws.

Key Features of this product include:

  • Able to reach high branches.
  • Gas-powered motor with “quick start”.
  • A versatile design that accommodates other Remington gas-powered attachments.

Customer comments

  • Heavier-weight and noisier than Cordless models
  • The gas motor requires regular maintenance.

Before Buying for a Pole Saw (Considerations)

Shopping for tools can be at times a bit overwhelming, especially for a beginner or for a tool you’ve never used before. Here are some important factors to think about when you’re looking to add this new addition to your lawn and garden gear.

1) Power

Battery or gas-powered tools? These two options are available when you want to stay away from corded models that will limit your movement. You don’t have to look for a power outlet, and you can maintain every corner of your yard quickly.

Gas-powered models are generally more powerful and will work correctly on sturdier branches. But you’re carrying the weight of the gas, as well as the tool. Moreover, they require more maintenance.

Battery-powered models are easier to use, especially if you’re a beginner. However, you should expect to suspend work occasionally to have your batteries charged.

2) Weight

This is an essential factor to consider because you will probably be carrying around your tool for a long time. Make sure that you’re able to handle the weight of the pole saw with the battery attached or the gas chamber filled.

If you’re unable to carry your tool, you won’t only feel frustrated, but your machine might slip and cause serious injuries. Finding a machine with a shoulder strap can be a lot more beneficial.

3) Available Reach

How long your pole saw will depend on your height as well as the length of the shaft. Some models can be extended by attaching an extension to reach higher branches. Other models can be adjusted so you can tackle lower and higher limbs more easily.

Quick Guide on Pole Saw Safety before you start trimming!

4) Adjustable Head Option

Most cordless pole saws have a fixed head which will work perfectly on vertical angles. But if you buy an angled head, it will be a big plus. Sometimes, you need to reach limbs in tight corners and an angled head will allow you to do that conveniently.

Best Pole Saws -
Using manual pole saw

Manual Tree Pruners like the one shown above are great for small branches, but they can’t match the performance of a Powered Pole Saw for cutting large limbs – High above the ground.  Although there’s a small learning curve to using them efficiently; the Best Cordless Pole Saws on the market will help you remove much larger limbs simpler, safer and a whole lot quicker.

A Pole Saw coupled with a good Wood Chipper and your yard will be looking great fast!

If your new to using a pole saw, Here is a great little user guide from Fiskars on How to Trim Trees and How to Use a Pole Saw.

When you’re shopping for a new cordless pole saw, and assuming your budget allows, we recommend you focus on getting a great quality Pole Saw – rather than just focusing on price, to make sure that your pole saw will provide the best value to you for money. As we all know, there’s no point in buying a cheap model twice, when you can purchase an excellent model once.
