Before we get to our instructions on how to mow Grass Stripes, you may be wondering why we are focusing on electric mowers rather than their petroleum counterparts. And it’s simple really. Gas mowers require a ton of maintenance, spring tune-ups, and you’ll never have to store gasoline in your garage again. If you live in cold weather areas, you’ll need to “winterize” your gas mower.  Conversely, electric mowers don’t require any of that attention.

Finally, people love how much quieter an electric mower is, vs. a gas mower.  So If you want to know which is the best electric lawn mower for stripes – Read on!

Common Electric Mower Frustrations

You may have heard a few stories people have experienced with their electric lawn mowers. And while these complaints do have some merit, what often goes unsaid is the user may not have bought a good quality electric mower. Yes, there are a few clunkers on the market.

You see, just like any other good you purchase in life, you are getting what you pay for (for the most part). If you get something with sub-par components, then you can expect a sub-par product. And because electric mowers have been expensive in the past, a lot of newcomers to the ‘electric revolution’ opted for cut-rate products that didn’t fit their needs.

Which brings me to my second point. Thanks to the improvements that have been made in electric motors in the last few years, high-quality electric lawn mowers are becoming more and more accessible. This means you can now purchase an excellent mower for a fraction of the price you would’ve paid even a couple of years ago.

Comments and Suggestions from Users:

Battery Life

Battery life is always a cause for concern, and for a good reason. Nobody wants to be in the middle of their yard work and have to pause for 3 hours to recharge their equipment. I mean yeah, the break is nice sure, but then you’ve got to get back up and start again.

This problem is easily remedied by having an “extra” battery for the mower on-hand.

Also,  finding a top-rated electric mower will automatically come with a high-performance battery and ease these concerns, and in addition, reputable companies will offer a warranty on the batteries.

Cost

This is an obvious frustration for most. Electric mowers tend to be more expensive than gas mowers, yet don’t offer the same power a gas motor does (at least not relative to price).

The conversation usually goes like this, “Why pay 200 dollars for an electric mower when I can get a gas one with more power for the same price?” And this isn’t a bad question by any means. The answer, however, is relatively straightforward.

Yes, the initial investment is higher for an electric lawn mower. But you aren’t paying for gas with each use. Tune-ups are all but eliminated, and there is less hassle with maintenance altogether. When looking at the ‘big picture,’ you stand to save a lot of money with electric mowers.

Power

This is the most talked about the downfall of electric motors is that they aren’t as powerful. And this is absolutely a legitimate beef you may have. The best advice I can give is this; if you have a lot of space to mow, like a half acre or more, or your grass is usually left to grow very tall (or a thick breed of grass like Bermuda), then you may be better off with a gas powered motor.

But if you have a small to medium size yard, and keep up with your lawn regularly, then you are the perfect candidate for an electric lawn mower.

  1. I need a mower for my small yard. I’m reading the article now in order to locate the best corded electric lawn mower. Unfortunately, I don’t have a garage, shed, porch, basement, or even crawl space I’m able to keep it in. My house has been robbed before so I realize it would be stolen unless I really could disable and lock it somehow.
So my two big questions are: Would it be possible safe enable keep an electric lawn mower outside by using a tarp for cover?
Would or not it’s possible to disable and lock a corded lawnmower?

    1. Thanks for your question! I would suggest you do not leave any mower (Gas, Electric, or Battery powered) outside without protection from rain, and other elements. Also, you can disable a corded mower simply by removing the cord, but unfortunately there is nothing to stop someone from stealing the mower anyway by just carrying it away. Hope you find your solutions, Thanks again, Kevin
