DEWALT DCHJ072 Heated Lightweight Soft Shell Jacket Kit with 2.0Ah Battery and Charger

Why We Like It

DeWalt has a reputation for being one of the best work equipment manufacturers in the world, and this coat is no exception, providing engineering, comfort, and safety features built-in – other heated jackets do not.  Available in Men’s and Women’s sizes, this is easily the best-heated jacket for working outdoors.

  • 20 Volt 2.0Ah DeWalt lithium-ion battery and charger System included

Our Takeaway

When we took a look at the best-heated work coats, we came away with one clear choice – DeWalt.  Not because it offers the most heating zones – with only 3 zones it is not the warmest heating coat on the market, however, if you are working outside you’re generating a lot of body heat on your own.

Instead, DeWalt shines by Incorporating other more important features, such as reflective piping – a slim fit that won’t get in the way of your work, and adjustable cuffs and waistband.  In addition, it connects with the tried and true 20-volt max battery system. Which, when interchanged with other DeWalt power tools you may own, is enough to seal the deal by itself for some buyers.

Based on the value of this work jacket, and all the additional features noted above – and you can see why we nominated the DeWalt Heated Jacket as our number one choice – for fieldwork.

Best Heated Jacket with Hand Warmers – Ptadhus Heated Jacket

PTAHDUS Men’s Heated Jacket Soft Shell, Heated Performance Jacket Soft Shell with Hand Warmer (X-Large, Includes 7.4V Battery Pack) Black

Why We Like It

While we all can appreciate the upper body comfort of a heated jacket, the Ptadhus heated jacket goes a step further – by targeting the front pocket areas as heat zone panels for hand warmth.  While other heated jackets have hand zones, like the Dewbu brand, Dewbu also distributes power to the “arm” zones.

The Ptadhus does not offer arm zone heating, so more energy is devoted to the chest and hand-warming zones of the heated jacket.

It’s a good idea for those who lack enough circulation to keep their hands warm in winter. After all, once your hands and feet are cold, your entire body is cold!

For the feet, you will need to look at heated socks for warmth, but for hand warmth only, the Ptadhus heated coat has got you covered.

Specs

  • Carbon Fiber Heating Elements
  • 5 Heating Zones – Including Hand Warmers
  • Durable Wind and Weatherproof Soft Shell
  • Machine Washable
  • 3- Temperature Settings with LED control
  • Women’s Style comes with Hood
  • Two Colors for Men and Women styles

Our Takeaway

We admire manufacturers when they respond to the market needs, in this case, by add heating zones for the hands.  It doesn’t matter how warm the rest of you may be, if your hands are frozen it will be difficult to do any kind of outside activity.

Makita is clearly one of the top-rated power tool manufacturers in the world.  With the Makita heated jacket, they incorporate all of their engineering and know-how into a premier heated hunting jacket and heated work jacket.

One caution to those who do not already use or have Makita battery-powered tools, the 18-volt lithium-ion battery and charger are sold separately (not included with heated jackets).

The Makita heated jacket is one of the only “convertible” heated jackets that allow you to use it as a Heated Hunting Vest – and in this case – a Camouflage Vest.

And, wIth an industry-leading heated run time up to 28 hours – you can stay still in the woods all day with the Makita heated jacket, and still be warm.  Reminders: that Makita lithium-ion batteries are sold separately, and the 18 Volt Makita battery will be bulky in the storage pocket.

Honorable Mention – Milwaukee M12 Heated Hoodie

Milwaukee Performance - Men's Zipper Front Black 12V Heated Hoodie W/Front & Back Heating Elements | Cotton Exterior W/Thermal Inside Lining | 3 Core Heating Zones | Battery Pack Included (Large)

Like our editor’s choice heated vest from Ororo – The Milwaukee heated hoodie is a go-to hoodie, but more specifically geared towards the work market.

Unlike the Ororo heated hoodie, the Milwaukee heated hoodie operates on the M12 series lithium-ion battery system with charge – Both of which are included in your purchase (see link below).

Premium-grade materials, 3- heating zones, and 3- Heat settings all round out this exceptionally heated hoodie from Milwaukee. Best Heated “Vests”

Best Heated Vest For Men & Women – Ororo Heated Vest

ORORO Men's Lightweight Heated Vest with Battery Pack (Large)

Why We Like It

The best-heated vest for Men – and in fact, our choice as the best-heated vest for women – the one that” checks all the boxes” – is from Ororo manufacturing.  Like the Ororo heated jackets, the Ororo heated vest is truly a great value in heating apparel.

Features include lightweight, water-resistant nylon fabric, 4 heating zones (where we would want them in a Vest), 10 hours of heating run time, and great styling and color choices.

Specs

  • 4 carbon fiber heating elements (Neck, Chest, and Hands)
  • Weather-resistant softshell fabric
  • Multiple Colors and Sizes
  • Up to 10 hour heating time
  • Mobile or Tablet charging port
  • Machine Washable
  • Compact lightweight Lithium Battery – TSA friendly carry-on

Our Takeaway

If you could pick one piece of heated apparel you might wear the most – It could be the Heated “Vest”.  Vests are lightweight, not too hot for indoor wear, but just warm enough with a heating element option to ward off the cold.  They’re also one of the cheapest options for staying warm.

The Ororo heated vest is the everyday, all-day, winter garment you probably won’t want to take off.  For me, it also doubles as a great heated golf vest for those cold mornings flying around on a golf cart.

The Ororo heated vest video explains why Ororo is our best value item in this review.

Frequently Asked Questions

If you’re buying a heated jacket or vest for the first time, you may have a few questions running through your mind. In this FAQ section, we’ll take a look at a few of the most commonly asked questions to help you make an informed buying decision:

How does a Heated Jacket Work?

The modern Heated jacket is actually quite simple in its design. Heated jackets have a “heater” built-in to the lining of the coat. This includes Multiple heating “pads” (3 – 5 typically) are located in the chest, back, and sometimes collar or arms of the jacket. The heating pads are usually made with carbon fibers and are battery-powered by a 7.4v or larger, Lithium-ion battery.

The lithium battery is pre-charged on a typical A/C current, then “plugged in” to the heated jacket – and stored in a separate interior pocket.

Are Heated Jackets Safe?

Because the heating elements are carbon fiber and contained in waterproof cases inside the heated jacket, heated jackets if used as designed, are safe from electric shock.  Heated jackets are cordless, with no AC electric connection. Most modern heated jackets are machine washable – just don’t forget to remove the exposed lithium battery first!

How do you Charge a Heated Jacket?

Heated jackets are typically powered by concealed lithium-ion batteries (no wires), which are pre-charged via your typical household current, using the manufacturer’s battery charger.  Just plug-in and Go – No moving parts or wiring to worry about.

How Long Does a  Heated Jacket stay Warm?

The answer depends on what size lithium-ion battery the manufacturer provides for heating the jacket. Most Heated jackets will stay warm between 6-8 hours on a full charge, whereas some manufacturers offer heated run times that range up to 12 or 28 hours long.

Typical lithium batteries used for heated jackets are a minimum of 7.4 volts, however, power tool companies like DeWalt, Makita, or Milwaukee, provide 12, 18, or even 24-volt batteries – interchangeable with a complete line of their power tools.

Can you Charge a Mobile phone with a Heated Jacket?

Yes, you can easily charge a mobile phone via a USB port included with the heated jacket battery pack. Almost all modern heated jackets have a USB port for charging devices – or in some cases, multiple USB ports (DeWalt), to charge mobile phones.

You will, of course, need to carry a USB mobile cord to do so.

What type of Heated Jacket is the Best?

The answer depends on “How” you plan to use your Heated Jacket.  Our recommendations are as follows;

  • For all-around comfort around the home, or daily errands we like the Dewbu and Ororo heated jackets the best for overall warmth, style, and value.
  • For work-related tasks, like construction, farm chores, etc. we like the comfort, fit, safety, and durability features of the DeWalt heated jacket.
  • If money isn’t an issue, the Milwaukee heated jacket checks all the boxes for work, play, and even style – with its quilted high-end premium heated jacket design.
  • Lastly, most heated jackets only have a heated run time of 6-8 hours per charge.  If, your work or play requires longer periods outside, choose a heated jacket with longer “heated” run times.  Ororo is rated at 12 hours of “heated” run time, and the Makita heated jacket boasts an outstanding 28 hours of heated run-time per charge.

Conclusion

Today’s modern Heated Apparel has come a long way since its inception -20 years ago. In fact, heated clothing is now available for just about any cold winter activity – well except one – The polar plunge, but those people are just plain crazy 🙂

Going about your daily tasks, work, or play in the winter can be, for some, miserably cold.  The heated jacket and heated vest is “tool” that helps alleviate those cold-weather blues.  Heated clothing adds that extra layer of warmth and protection from the cold (and makes those freezing cold – vinyl car seats a more bearable).

In addition, because of the wide array of competitive manufacturers supplying heated clothes, the prices now range from are very affordable, and the choices for snow blowing, hunting, working, or playing is vast.

So choose well, based on your preferred winter activities, and give one of these marvels of winter apparel.
