While the 18-Inch width snow blade is 3″ smaller than the 21″ blade of our #1 pick from EGO, the Snow Joe 48 Volt is, however, $250-300 less money than the EGO snowblower.

Snow Joe – 48 Volt Cordless Snow Blower

Best “Premium” (2-Stage) Snow Blower – Cub Cadet 2 X 26 Snowblower

Why We Like It

For those with larger driveways to blow (and larger budgets), we think the overall best snow blower on the market is the Cub Cadet: 2-Stage 2 x 26 – Gas-powered Snowblower (2 for “2-Stage, 26 for 26″ wide clearing path by the way).

The Cub Cadet 2X wins nearly every snowblower category for large driveways in our review, including a 26″ wide path, 2-stage power, more traction, greater snow-throwing distance, push-button electric start, 6-speed forward drive (2-speed reverse), Trigger controlled power steering (what!) and large dual-LED lights.

Hailing from one of the most respectable names in lawn and snow care, Cub Cadet literally knocked it out of the park with this affordable, and best-selling snow blower in their lineup.

As we said, when you add up the performance, features, and power of the Cub Cadet 2-Stage 2X 26, it really doesn’t compare to smaller gas-powered or battery-powered snow blowers, much less any other 2-stage blowers we researched.  This machine is for the homeowner looking for the best snowblower for long driveways or needs a larger, dependable blower to “move a lot of snow”  quickly.

If you have the budget and the desire to move a ton of snow in a hurry, this is surely one of the best-rated snow blowers on the market.

Best Value “Electric”:   Snow Joe SJ627E – Electric Snowblower

Snow Joe 24V-X2-SB18 48-Volt iON+ Cordless Snow Blower Kit | 18-Inch | W/ 2 x 4.0-Ah Batteries and Charger

Why We Like It

What is the best snow blower for the money?  In our rundown of the best snow blowers for 2021, perhaps the best value snowblower on the market is the Snow Joe 22″ Electric snowblower.  While limited in distance by an extension cord; we still think this is one of the best snow blower options for homeowners, especially for those with small to medium driveways.

But don’t be deceived by its source of electrical power.  This beast cranks out 15 amps of power and can move up 25 tons of snow an hour. The steel auger cuts a 22″ path, in up to 13″ of deep snow – with ease, and two LED lights make it a breeze to navigate day or night.

The best-selling model by Snow Joe, this gem combines striking power and affordability.  And it has a generous size cutting path at 22″ wide. This amazing little machine easily clears snow quickly, making it perfect for decks, sidewalks, or smaller driveways.

    • 15-amp motor
    • 22″ cutting path
    • 13″ snow depth capable
    • Adjustable 180-degree directional chute
    • Two LED headlights
    • 4-blade steel auger
    • Amazing ratings
    • 2-Year Warranty

Our Takeaway

While it won’t be suitable for huge driveways or heavy wet snowfall, this electric snowblower offered more than enough reasons to impress us. That is, as long as your ok navigating with an extension cord in tow.

And while it may not be the biggest snowblower on the block, its 15 amp power actually rivals Gas-Powered snow blowers.  The difference with this one; Electric start, No pull cords, No oil changes, and No Gas required!

iON 18SB Snow Blower Video From Snow Joe:

Our Takeaway:

Overall, we find the Snow Joe 40 Volt to be an excellent machine for home use. Our only complaint would be the 18″ width is a little smaller, compared to EGO’s 21″ or our Best Value Electric model.

For some that could also be considered a strength, however – as the Snow Joe ion model is a little easier to maneuver from the driveway to the walk, and deck.

Even with heavy snow, you’ll still have plenty of power on tap to make quick work of walkways and driveways.  Its lighter weight is also a significant advantage since it can be easily turned, picked up, and maneuvered as needed.  The real draw in buying a Snow Joe electric snow blower is that you get a dependable, highly rated, battery-powered snowblower for an outstanding price.

Snow Joe – Battery Powered Snow Blower

At 90 lb weight, the 950 series gas snow blower isn’t the best choice to lug onto and blower your back deck, it is a substantially powerful snowblower

It’s also affordable.  For the price of a (21″) Toro snowblower with similar features, you can pick up this 22″ wide Briggs & Stratton 950 series for even less. Manufactured by a very reliable manufacturer, we’re very pleased with the features, quality, performance, and overall capabilities packed into this gas-powered blower.

Best Cordless Electric Snow Shovel  –  Sun Joe 323E – 13 inch wide

Snow Joe 323E 13-Inch 10-Amp Electric Snow Shovel

Why We Like it

While today’s review focuses on cordless Snowblowers, many folks choose to use their gas-powered snowblower for heavier, wetter snowfalls, and instead use portable, ready-to-go Electric “Snow Shovels”, for their porch, deck, or sidewalks.

If you’re not familiar with this handy tool, the electric snow shovel is one of those “I can’t believe I didn’t buy one earlier” type power tools.

At only 13 lbs., you can easily grab this tool and go after light to medium snowfall with its 13” wide x 6” deep clearing path. It runs on a powerful 10 Amp motor capable of 400 lbs of snow per minute and can launch snow up to 20 feet.

If that wasn’t enough, the Sun Joe snow shovel does so without the possibility of spilling Gas, fouled spark plugs, or running out of battery charge. Sun Joe provides a super practical choice with this model.

Best “Battery Powered” Snow Shovel:  Snow Joe 24V SS11-XR Ion+

Snow Joe 24V-SS11-XR 24-Volt iON+ Cordless Snow Shovel Kit | 11-Inch | W/ 5.0-Ah Battery and Charger

Why We Like It

This model is very similar to the one listed above, except for the fact that it runs on a 24-volt Lithium-Ion battery. That is, without the limitations of an electrical extension cord. While this model isn’t more powerful than the Snow Joe 323E electric snow shovel, battery power gives it far more versatility without a limit on distance.

If you’re looking for a tough little snowblower, without cords, for small to medium snowfalls, this is a great option to consider.

Sun Joe Battery Powered Snow Shovel – Video

At 7″ deep, the design is intended strictly for use on your sidewalk, porch, or deck.

Quality, reliability, and performance are major strong suits of this model, and its versatility to be able to use without an extension cord is just another bonus for homeowners to consider this model.

Frequently Asked Questions

In this FAQ section, you’ll find the answers to a few of the most common questions buyers are asking, before making an informed buying decision.

What Is the Difference Between Gas and Electric Snow Blowers?

The primary functional difference between the two is the power source. Gas-powered snow blowers typically offer more horsepower than electric models do, which creates more power to remove heavy or wet snowfalls.

With that said, gas-powered models are also heavier making them a little harder to handle, and require far more routine maintenance than an electric snowblower.

For this reason, we think that a cordless snow blower is a fantastic option for many homeowners to consider.

What Do the Battery Voltage Ratings Mean?

In battery-operated power equipment, “Voltage” can be viewed as the rating for “Power”. On its face, a 56-volt battery, for example, will provide more power than a 40-volt; however, there is a bit more consideration when choosing a battery-powered tool system.

When considering “voltage” in terms of Power – the performance of a 40-volt vs. a 56-volt system, for instance, should not be the sole factor for determining the “available power” a battery can provide.

Amp Hour x Volts = Watt Hour

Overall, “power” when measuring battery equipment, is Actually measured in both;

Amp-hours (Ah) and Battery Voltage (volts).

These two factors together determine the available “Watt Hours” of any particular battery system.

For example, a 4 Ah lithium-ion battery will provide (stored) power – twice as long as a 2 Ah lithium-ion battery.

So a 40-volt – 4 Ah battery will actually produce about the same Watt-Hours as an 80-volt – 2 Ah battery.

Therefore, It’s more practical to compare overall Lithium-ion Battery Power – in terms of its “Watt Hours” over any other measurement.

Watt-hours are always listed on the battery label itself, but may not be listed in the specs or on the box.

Our suggestion: Read the battery label on the models you’re looking at, and use the Watt-Hours to compare one power tool vs. another. It’s more reliable, quicker, and the formula is already done!

Are Electric (corded) Snow Blowers Any Good?

At one time, electric power equipment (with extension cords) got a bad reputation for being too weak to tackle anything but very light jobs. However, that stopped being the case a few years ago.  The main proponent is the Sun Joe Brand (our pick for Best Electric Snow Blower).

Today, cordless electric tools are much more powerful and reliable than when they were first introduced.

Based on the overall user ratings we studied, the best cordless snow blowers available on the market, do meet the needs of most homeowners.

This is especially true for those with smaller driveways, decks, or walks to manage.  Ever tried a cordless leaf blower to remove a light snowfall?  Don’t laugh – It really works!

Who Makes the Best Electric “Snow Shovel”?

In our opinion and for the money, we think the best electric snow thrower is the Snow Joe 10 Amp – 13″ Wide snow shovel. Combining surprising power to shoot snow 20 feet, and a lightweight of only13 lbs, we think this snowblower represents the best choice for sidewalks and decks.

If the heavier weight of a large snowblower is also an issue for you as a user, consider the Snow Joe 10 Amp Electric Snow Shovel, for friendlier use,  price, and convenience.

Snowblower Safety Tips

Anytime you use power tools, it’s a great idea to familiarize yourself with the equipment you’re about to use. Read the manufacturer’s instructions carefully, and thoroughly before using – including battery charging instructions.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates there are over 5,000 snowblower-related injuries a year in the United States, requiring medical attention.

  • For proper snow blowing safety, we recommend using sturdy boots with good tread, thick gloves, and while not as critical for the quieter – cordless snow blowers; suitable hearing protection.
  • Refrain from wearing any loose clothing; such as long scarfs that could get tangled, in an auger.
  • Make sure to never put hands, feet, or face, anywhere near an auger or snowblower chute while it is running.
  • Snowblowers are powerful pieces of equipment, capable of throwing stones or loose gravel up to 50 feet. When using a snowblower never aim the chute towards people, homes, windows, cars, etc. as this could do serious damage.
  • Snowblowers should be used by adults or only with adult supervision, and are not recommended for children’s use.
  • If you experience a blockage in the auger or chute, turn the snow blower off.  Then using a stick or broom handle, gently prod snow and ice loose.  Never use your hands to remove objects from the auger.

Today we’ve covered the 8 “Best Snowblowers” for 2021, and the 2 Best electric Snow shovels” you can buy.  We trust with this review in hand and what you hope to accomplish at your own property, you’ll more easily be able to select the right model for your needs.

For larger driveways and sidewalks we wholeheartedly recommend the EGO 56 Volt Snowblower, followed by the more affordable runner-up from Snow Joe 48 Volt snowblower. For smaller applications like decks, porches, and walks only, you can’t go wrong with the Snow Joe electric or battery-powered snow shovels.
