Having spent most of my career on job sites, I’ve needed to wear the Most Comfortable Work Boots for men – that I could find and still afford.
This guide features nine of the most comfortable work boot brands, each selected as the best in its quality, purpose, and price category.
Here are the work boots I’ve used or still own, along with a few comfy ones for men that were tested based on the brand’s quality or high popularity.
Importance of “Comfort and Safety” in Work Boots
Comfort and Safety should be your top priorities when choosing the proper work boots. Wearing uncomfortable work boots can cause foot fatigue, blisters, and even long-term foot problems.
Additionally, Wearing unsafe work boots can lead to slips, falls, or severe other foot injuries.
While Investing in a good pair of work boots benefits your health and safety, they are also essential for good job performance. When comfortable and safe, you can focus on your work and perform at your best.

Cincinnati work boots are becoming “legendary” for their incredible comfort, safety, and durable construction. They are also known for their patented “wedge heel,” ideal for working on hard surfaces or bare earth.
And while these work boots have a Safety Toe, they are not steel-toe boots. Instead, KEEN uses a composite toe (carbon fiber) that is 15% lighter and as strong as steel.
The “Cincinnati” work boot from KEEN utilizes a Wedge Sole design. Many users prefer Wedge Soles for their softer, wider footprint and stable footing on hard surfaces.
In addition, The Cincinnati work boot includes all the Safety features you would expect from a top-rated work boot, including Non-Slip, oil-resistant soles, EH Rating (Electrical Hazard Resistance), and a wedge sole for maximum traction on hard surfaces.

KEEN – “CHICAGO” 6″ UTILITY WORK BOOTS
Best Style “Premium” – Traction Tred- Lite Work Boots by Red Wing
It’s true; many guys wear work boots just for style points, whereas others wear them for work, such as on the job or around the house.
After testing this stylish, lightweight, and comfortable pair of work boots, I can honestly say the Traction Tred Lite work boots from Red Wing – meet or exceed either of those needs to perfection.
That’s not hype – it’s a fact. Having spent the better part of my career wearing workboots, I know the pitfalls of a long break-in period, or wet feet from workboots that were supposed to be “waterproof” but weren’t, or workboots too heavy to wear all day.
Traction Tred Lite boots are none of those things. But as their name implies, these boots are lightweight and provide excellent traction on dry or wet surfaces.
Additionally, exclusive to our Workboot Guide for Men, this is the only pair we found or tested with a “Laceless, Dial Adjust to Fit System.”
Red Wing incorporates the BOA patented fit system into the Traction Lite Work Boots, where, with a twist of the dial – you can quickly adjust the “coated wire laces” for maximum comfort.
It’s a revolutionary, high-speed, easy, and intelligent way to “put your boots on.”
Specifications:
- Slip-resistant soles – Best grip on dry or wet surfaces
- BOA Fit System: Micro-fit adjust by Turning the Dial
- Waterproof – Waterproof bootie built-in
- Dry-Wick Liners
- Tri-Cote Outer Layer Protection
- Full Grain leather upper: Weatherproof and Waxed
- 3 lbs. 9 ounces – the Lightest work boots we tested
- Boot Height: 6″ High
- Electrical Hazard Protection (EH rated) – rated to protect against open circuits up to 600 volts in dry conditions (ASTM F2413-18)
- Non-metallic safety toe protects against impact and compression (ASTM F2413-18)
The Red Wing Traction Tred Lite boots are the most expensive in our work boot guide, but they are probably the best work boots I’ve ever worn.
If you want a very stylish and super-comfortable pair of waterproof boots made of the finest leather, a non-metallic safety toe, and no laces to tie that you can use on or off a job site (and you can afford them:), this would be the pair of work boots to buy.
I also love the color, which I can only describe as Medium Sage/Grey/Brown. This description makes more sense once you’ve seen them in the Store.
And regarding urban style, these boots even give Timberland a good run for the money.
Personally, my father served as a Red Wing Shoe sales representative throughout much of my childhood. Although I didn’t need work boots during that time, I now appreciate the quality and popularity of the Red Wing brand, its success, and my experience using their workboots now.
Traction Tred Lite boots are priced at $289.00 when publishing this article.

TRACTION TRED LITE – BEST “STYLE / PREMIUM” WORK BOOTS
Most “Comfortable” Work Boots: BRUNT “Kasparian” (Soft Toe)
For those whose jobs or hobbies include traveling long distances on foot, up and down ladders, and essentially being on their feet all day, the most comfortable and lightweight features of the Kasparian work boots by BRUNT are something to consider.
These boots have become my favorite “go-to” for work and play.
Not shy on quality, Brunt packs a ton of “Premium” features into the Kasparian boot, Including:

I own and love “Kasparian” work boots for my everyday chores. The built-in comfort, fit, durability, and waterproof characteristics have made them my “Go-To” work boots.
With the Kasparian Work Boot, Brunt Manufacturing has contended with the top-rated work boots worldwide, including KEEN.
Brunt markets “direct to consumers,” so while they are unavailable in retail stores, this made-in-the-U.S.A. brand provides a unique “Adjustable Width sole Insert.”
This insert can be easily trimmed or removed if the boots are snug.

BRUNT “KASPARIAN” – BEST LIGHTWEIGHT WORK BOOTS
Best “Ultra-Light Waterproof – APEX work boots by Red Wing
Anyone who wears work boots all day can appreciate a pair that is A) lightweight, B) Waterproof, and C) Has a Safety Toe.
The APEX work boots from Red Wing (one of our favorite manufacturers) convincingly achieve all three (3) of these attributes in one single pair of boots.
Let’s talk about the weight. APEX lightweight work boots weigh a mere 2.9 lbs, making them the lightest weight in our “best of work boot reviews.”
Adding to their lightweight comfort and reduced fatigue for wearers, the APEX boots also use an extraordinary Waterproof method to manufacture these work boots.
From the manufacturer: Red Wing
“This system uses a 3-layer approach to keep feet dry.1 – Linings help move moisture away from the foot to keep it dry. 2 – Foam provides cushioning and a comfortable fit. 3 – A waterproof bootie is a barrier to keep water out. Tricot, a protective material, is applied to the outside of the bootie to ensure a complete waterproof system.
Comments from our tester Justin, after wearing Apex Boots for 60 days in Construction Work conditions:
“The Redwing Apex are the best work boots I’ve ever worn! They are both breathable and durable. The BOA lacing system saves time and money on laces. I would purchase these again (if they ever wear out) and recommend them to any friend or coworker.”
Additionally, APEX work boots offer an aluminum safety toe for added assurance while working around heavy equipment.
Specifications
• Nubuck Leather – Waterproofed and Oiled
• 6″ Height Workboot
• Removable EVA full-cushion footbed molds to the foot
• Bontex insole
• Rubber Vibram nonslip outsole grips the ground
• Lightweight Red Wing waterproof construction – Only 2.9 lbs.
• Aluminum Safety Toe
And as if these features weren’t enough to convince you, APEX workboots have heat-resistant/slip-resistant soles and the ingenious BOA lace system (see below) – utilizing a twist knob to cinch the coated wire laces!
As mentioned earlier, the APEX work boots, like the “Traction Tred-Lite” boot featured above, are also manufactured by Wolverine in my hometown of Rockford, MI.
While they’re not the least expensive, the APEX work boots are possibly the most comfortable and well-suited boots for multiple work conditions you’ll ever own.
RED WING “APEX” – Best “Ultra-Light/Waterproof” Workboots
Best “Value ” Steel Toe Work Boots: CAT “Threshold”
One of our review’s most popular and affordable steel-toe work boots came from CAT (Yes, the heavy equipment manufacturer). And apparently, CAT knows what its customers are looking for in a work boot.
Those features are all found in the “Threshold” work boot, including 100% quality leather uppers, flexible and very comfortable “ERGO” midsole (30% lighter), solid rubber -slip resistant outer sole, a weatherproof membrane with sealed joints, and steel toe

CAT “THRESHOLD” – BEST VALUE “STEEL TOE” WORK BOOTS
Best “Slip-On” Work Boots for Men: Wolverine “Floorhand Wellington”
Slip-on work boots are perfect for quick chores, such as running out to the barn, the mailbox, mowing the lawn, or even walking the dog, but in our opinion, they are not ideal for wearing long-distance or at construction sites.
There is no shortage of choices in the best slip-on work boots category. Our first choice is the Wolverine “Floorhand” Wellington slip-on work boots for Men.
They are also of incredible value based on the construction materials used.
Super comfortable and easy to get on and off, the Floorhand Wellington boot from Wolverine is made with superior-grade materials, including Waterproof – Full-rain leather upper, Cushioned sole, and Steel Toe for safety.
Specifications
• Waterproof full-grain leather upper looks and feels premium

Did we mention Wolverine Manufacturing makes them? It is one of the world’s top boot and show manufacturers, with corporate headquarters and showrooms located in my hometown of Rockford, Michigan.
Admittedly, these work boots are not ideal (nor designed) for job sites or wearing all day on hard surfaces like concrete factory floors.
They are also a great value ($98 at publishing) and are the perfect pair of work boots to keep by the back door and slip on day or night.
WOLVERINE “FLOORHAND” – BEST SLIP-ON WORKBOOTS
Best “Ranch” Work Boots: Wolverine “Rancher” Wellington Work Boots
For those whose jobs include working a Ranch and all that entails, we selected the “Rancher” work boot from Wolverine as our #1 pick.

The stiff sole and raised heel are perfect for everyday use, including horse riding, operating equipment, cutting logs, or even a trip into town.

- 100% Leather
- Imported
- Man-made sole
- $129 at publishing
The western-inspired Rancher Wellington work boot features a full-grain leather upper and a removable ortho-lite cushioned footbed to ensure your feet stay comfortable and dry all day.
WOLVERINE “RANCHER” – BEST RANCH WELLINGTON WORK BOOTS
Best “Premium” Work Boots for Men: Thorogood 1957 Work Boots
A clear fan favorite in the category of Best Premium Brands is the 1957 Series work boot from Thorogood.
At the top of nearly every category are the ever-popular premium-grade Thorogood 1957 work boots.
Some work boots are designed to keep your feet dry (weatherproof), whereas others are created for safety(steel toe). However, the stand-out feature we found in the Thorogood 1957 work boots is their comfort.
If you need an all-purpose work boot on the job and in the office, and comfort is the primary feature you’re looking for, this boot has you covered.
Specifications:
- 100% Leather
- $227 at the time of publishing
- AMERICAN MADE with USA and globally sourced components by the skilled craftsmen and women at Thorogood’s US plants

Thorogood 1957 Series steel-toe boots are ideal for various outdoor and industrial work uses. They are designed for builders, construction workers, heavy equipment operators, electricians, and HVAC workers.
The Perfect work boot for anyone who needs a durable, weatherproof, and comfortable pair of work boots with safety toe protection for the toughest jobs.
THOROGOOD “1957” – BEST “PREMIUM” WORKBOOTS
Best “Waterproof” Work Boots: “Chore” Muck Boots
It’s no secret that the Muck Boot Brand makes some of the best, if not The Best, fully weatherproof work boots on the market. The “Chore” work boots are, in our opinion, the best of the MUCK BOOT lineup.
Specifications:
- 100% Synthetic and fabric
- Non-insulated boot (See Artic Pro boots below for Insulated)
- $118 at the time of publishing
- Rubber Cupsole for Improved Traction and durability
- The shaft measures approximately 14.5 inches from the arch
- The Boot opening is about 15″ around
- All seams are cemented, stitched, and sealed with permanent rubber tape for weatherproof protection.
While this is one of the few work boots we feature without a “safety toe,” we couldn’t pass up including the Chore Work Boots in our Most comfortable work boot reviews.
Muck boots “Chore” offer a niche in work boots the others don’t – That is entirely Waterproof construction.
MUCK BOOTS “CHORE” – BEST WATERPROOF WORKBOOTS
Looking for “Insulated” Waterproof Boots Instead?
The “Chore” work boot from Muck Boots is a Non-Insulated Waterproof work boot that can be worn all year round.
However, if you perform a lot of snow removal, hunting, ice fishing, or other wet activities in the winter, you may want to consider these Insulated “Arctic Pro” waterproof boots from Muck Boots instead.
Once your feet warm them up, these boots almost feel like heated boots. Combining an Insulated Bootie and Fleece Lining for superior waterproof construction, along with uncompromising comfort and a Steel Safety Toe (not included in “Chore work boot”)
Arctic work boots are not “Cheap,” but if you spend much of the winter in water-soaked conditions, these are weatherproof work boots.
“ARCTIC PRO” – BEST “INSULATED” WATERPROOF WORK BOOTS
Men’s Work Boots: Buying Guide (FAQ)
“Most Important Features to Look for in Work Boots”
Before deciding on the best work boots, knowing what features to look for when shopping is essential. Here are the top Men’s Work Boot features to consider:
Comfort
The most important feature to look for in work boots is comfort. Look for boots with good arch support, cushioning, and a comfortable fit. Consider the material of the boot and whether it is breathable.
The types of exterior materials used in making work boots vary greatly. From natural leather to nylon or other man-made materials, the possibilities are broad.
In addition, the choice of interior lining can be equally important. For instance, if your primary use of work boots is for indoor work or light-duty outdoor activities, you probably wouldn’t choose a weatherproof or insulated work boot.
Therefore, we chose the “Traction Tred-Lite” Work Boots from Red Wing as our favorite. They are the most comfortable work boots you can wear.
As close runner-ups, the Keen & Kasparian work boots focus specifically on comfort and provide some of the best-featured, lightest-weight work boots we reviewed.
Safety
Safety should be another top priority when choosing work boots. Look for boots with slip-resistant soles, steel toes, and other safety features appropriate for your job.
In addition, “true” safety boots will include a steel or composite (carbon fiber) safety toe – built into the work boot. This is an essential safety feature for those who work around heavy equipment or rough conditions.
Our top choices in Safety Boots are the “Chicago” work boots from KEEN and the “Cincinnati” work boots from KEEN.
Construction
An excellent pair of work boots isn’t cheap. However, in the “get what you pay for” category, few purchases are more important to consider than the work boots you buy.
The Construction and Durability of work boots can literally “make or break” your ability to perform your work or enjoy your hobbies.
Because the average person in America walks an average of 3,000-4,00 steps (or 1.5- 2 miles) daily, footwear construction can be equally important for those using work boots solely for comfort or style.
Be sure to look at the quality of materials used in the construction of each work boot choice and how that construction matches the durability of your intended use.
Fit
While the “Fit” of a work boot would seem necessary, many buyers surprisingly overlook it when buying work boots.
For instance, your foot naturally “swells” while working – as the blood pressure increases.
To avoid future discomfort, check the fit of a work boot by ensuring sufficient room in the Toe of the work boot.
To do this, set your heel to the back of the boot while wearing a thick sock. Confirm a minimum gap of 1/2″ clear space in the toe area.
Equally important is allowing similar room for the Width of the work boot—up to 1/4″ clear space on either side of your foot.
You don’t want a sloppy fit, which can cause blisters, but you don’t want a “Snug Fit” either.
Weather Resistance
An excellent overall work boot will offer some weather resistance and design features. However, if your work, sports, or hobbies require complete “waterproof” construction, that should be your focus, first and foremost.
Our reviews found that the “Arctic Pro” work boot from Muck Boots was the top-rated weatherproof work boot.
With an all-weather outer shell, thick rubber sole, and waterproof liner, the Artic Pro boots stood out as the best work boots to buy, with or without a steel toe (see options on links).
Sole (Type)
Work boots are primarily manufactured with two types of “Soles”: Heeled Soles and Wedge soles.
To make the proper choice when buying work boots, consider the primary uses you will have for them.
For instance, a “Heeled Sole” is perfect for all-around outdoor work, includes heavy tread, is traditional in design, and is ideal for use on bare ground – like job sites, hunting, cutting firewood, etc.
However, heeled boots are less comfortable than “wedge sole” work boots.
Wedge-sole work boots have a shallower tread and a softer sole that spreads your weight over the whole foot. They are less likely to slip on hard surfaces, making them ideal for concrete, asphalt, or steel.
Because some trades require rugged outdoor conditions and indoor work, some work boots offer a hybrid option combining a wedge and heel into one work boot.
