Imagine it’s the start of fall, and we can finally feel the cooler weather beginning to kick in. The nice crisp Autumn breeze is starting to take hold and along with the great weather, we also get those amazing views of leaves as they change color.

But Autumn also tends to mean a lot of yard work. There’s a reason the third season of the year is better known by its nickname: Fall (and I’m sure I don’t have to tell you why).

I remember as a kid, loving everything that the season had to offer. That is until Saturday afternoon came around and I was forced to spend the entire day raking leaves. I don’t exactly hate raking leaves, but let’s face it for a kid – or now as an adult – there are quite a few other things I wouldn’t mind doing on all my Saturday afternoons. The truth I would soon learn is there is a much easier way to get your leaves “raked”, and in only a matter of minutes. All I needed was a leaf blower, and now after years of experimenting, I have come to one undeniable conclusion. A battery operated leaf blower is by far one of the best tools for a residential home!

I’ve come to love pretty much anything that Worx puts together. Their lawn care equipment is always top-notch, and the Turbine is definitely another excellent product in a long line of great products.

The Verdict

This certainly could use some improvements, most notably the battery. It takes far too long to charge and if you overcharge it the 2-year warranty is voided. Thankfully you can easily purchase a better battery, and the leaf blower itself is A+.

Why Go Cordless

Going cordless is all the rage these days. Cordless charging, cordless surround sound systems, wireless controllers for the video games, heck we’ve even removed the cords from our headphones. So wouldn’t it stand to reason we would want our lawn tools cordless as well?

In case you still need some convincing, I’ll go a little deeper into the reasons cordless is the way to go.

Hint: It’s pretty much the same as it is for lawn mowers and weed eaters too.

So many leaves, so little time...

So many leaves, so little time…

Freedom of Movement

Who likes being tethered to the wall, or anything else for that matter? I sure don’t, and I’d venture to guess that you don’t either. This rings especially true when you are trying to get your yard work done.

Having to worry about where you are going to plug in the cord or how much slack you have left in the cord is for the birds. Not to mention how often the cord will get lost under the pile of leaves you just meticulously put together. Now you’ve to fish the cord out and ruin the perfect leaf pile the kids and dog were so anxious to jump into.

Of course, a cordless blower gets rid of all that completely.

No Fuel

It is true; gas leaf blowers are cordless too. Well, except for the pull string you have to fight with every time you need to start up the machine. Cordless leaf blowers require zero fuel – unless you count batteries as fuel, I’d so there more like power sources than fuel sources though.

This means you save time and money every time you “rake the leaves” in the yard. Not only are you not having to pay for gas, but you also don’t have to make extra trips to the station. What is more important, you’ll never have to fool around that stupid pull string again. Push buttons are just so much easier.

Quiet(er) Operation

Let’s be real here; you are using a giant wind maker to get the leaves from one spot to another. So there really is no such thing as a quiet leaf blower. But that doesn’t mean that cordless leaf blowers aren’t significantly quieter than their gasoline-powered brethren.

Since they don’t have all of the components that are required of a gasoline-powered motor, there is much less noise coming from these machines. What this means for you is no screaming over the sound of a two-stroke of four-stroke motors.

Weightlessness

While not being considered weightless, at 4-7 lbs. Cordless leaf blowers are Infinity lighter than their 2-stroke and 4-stroke gas counterparts. I mean by a long shot – try 17 lbs. on average for a gas blower. Much heavier for the backpack versions.

I don’t know about you but I have a rule; if it isn’t light enough to carry in one hand, then I don’t want go haul that piece of equipment around the yard .

Breathe Easy

Breathing easy is something that we often take for granted. That is until we have a giant motor spewing exhaust fumes in our face while we are trying to beautify our yards. I can assure you, the fumes are unbearable, not to mention the heat that the exhaust generates.

But alas, cordless leaf blowers don’t have that issue. Largely because of the fact that they don’t release any emissions. So you want to continue breathing clean air. And maybe even help clean up the environment while you’re at it. Well, that means you are going to need an electric leaf blower.

When Not to Go Cordless

I hate to step on my argument about how cordless leaf blowers are far and away the best option for residential yard work. But they aren’t always the perfect solution for everyone. Let me explain.

Landscaping for a Living

The chances are minimal that any professional landscapers out there are reading articles about the best cordless leaf blowers. But just in case there are – or maybe some of you are thinking about getting into the landscaping business. You should know that 4-stroke motors are best if you need it for work. They just last longer, and batteries only last so long before you need to recharge them.

Giant Yard

This is similar to the reason landscapers shouldn’t purchase an electric leaf blower. There is just too much yard and not enough life. Maybe if you have a bunch of extra batteries in stock, you can get away with it. But then you’re just spending a ton of money on charging.

Need More Power

Electric leaf blowers have come a long way, in terms of power. But they still aren’t able to hold a candle to motors that utilize a 4-stroke engine. If you need max power, then you should probably opt for a gas-powered leaf blower.

Tight Budget

Sometimes it just isn’t in the cards for us to purchase something that has a higher price tag on it. If that is the position you are in, but you still need a leaf blower, then there is nothing wrong with going ahead a springing for a less expensive corded model. Just make sure you get an extension cord that is long enough. Something many buyers underestimate.

Wrap – Up

There is nothing like having an immaculate lawn. It makes barbecuing better, it makes sitting on the patio better, and it just gives your home a sense of awesomeness. Having a great lawn requires keeping the leaves (or anything else for that matter) from cluttering the yard. The best way to do that is with a Cordless leaf blower.
