Top 5 Quiet Portable Generators | Buying Guide & Reviews 2019
Inverter generators are fantastic because they provide a ton of power, but do it in such a small package, you could argue that Yamaha has constructed the best inverter generator for the price we’ve ever seen. In addition to being highly portable, it also has an excellent runtime, and even an option to connect two generators for double the power.
It’s a Yamaha, so you know there’s a lot to like about this generator.
Runtime: 10.5 hours on a ¼ load. This may seem inferior, but considering the size of the generator, it’s an astonishing feat.
Parallel Generator Option: This is the technology that allows you to connect two EF2000’s and double the power output
Unnaturally lightweight: This thing only weighs 44 pounds, yet can power an entire RV
Very quiet 51-decibel rating at 1/4 load
When you purchase such a small unit like most portable generators, you shouldn’t expect it to run for an entire day. When using it at full power, you can expect to have to fill the tank every 3 to 4 hours at least. Also, this unit includes a pull start motor, which can be a little slow to start at times.
I haven’t seen an inverter generator that I like better than the Yamaha EF2000iSv2, except perhaps our Runner-Up the Champion 75537i, but because of the difference in Price (and because this article focus is on Quietest Generators) – The Yamaha just barely edges out the Champion model for us, and maybe for you. The Yamaha EF2000iSv2 has superb power on its own, and the fact that you can parallel two of them together for double the power is super convenient. I would recommend this generator to anyone who is looking for a Quiet and dependable portable generator. If you only need 2000 watts of power, this is a great option for you.

The complaints from Users include; Wheels are a little small for the weight of this unit – 96 lbs. So moving it across anything but smooth pavement can be difficult. Also, some folks noted that the Champion 3100 watt generator is quiet at 58 Db. but not as quiet as other models on the market at 48 Db. However, the reference is to other generators that offer 2000 watts vs. the 3100 watts of this generator.

It’s not often that you see a generator several hundred dollars below the $1000 mark, and you’re still \impressed with it. But the WEN56200i has managed to do just that. The consumer-friendly price mixed with the fantastic power it pushes out, this generator is one to take notice of.
Inexpensive: we all love a great deal, and this unit is the poster child for the best value.
Quiet Operation: Much like the other two generators we’ve seen so far, this one runs a very low 45 to 50 decibels
Perfect for campgrounds: being that is so light, and so quiet, I can’t see a better use for this generator
Two 3-prong outlets
Parallel connection cable allows you to connect two of them
Very quiet – 51-decibel rating at 1/4 load
The Not so Good
Again, we love this device and don’t have much to complain about with it. There are some minor irritants though, the most significant being how often you should replace the oil which accoring to the manufacturer is every 20 hours. The other thing is that it is quite tall for a generator of its kind, but really, that’s all I’ve got.
As you can see, there isn’t much wrong with the WEN56400i. I mean, I had to be pretty nitpicky just to find a downside to it. If you are looking for an inverter generator, and want to get one at the best price possible. Then the WEN is hands down the generator you want.

Shipping damage seemed to be a major review fault, but most customers satisfied with Generac customer support to resolve issues.
Generac is probably the longest running-respected name in Commercial generators, and it’s obvious they intend to maintain that reputation as witnessed by this portable inverter generator.
The iGen2500 by Westinghouse is much more powerful than you would expect a portable generator in this price range to be. It’s rated at 2200 watts with 2500 peak watts output, and still only weighs 48 pounds, making it perfect for almost any situation.
2500 watts packed into one of the lightest converters on this list
Two 120v outlets and two USB outlets provide plenty of space to charge devices, plug in speakers or anything else you need to do
10 hours of run-time at full power
Economy mode extends the runtime

The Not so Good
Smaller 1-gallon gas tank
Also, I know it’s a big ask, but it would be awesome if it had an electric start option. The biggest issue I’ve seen people have here is with Westinghouse customer service personnel. Not so good if you need to call in on that 3-year warranty.
Overall, this is an excellent product. It’s compact, powerful, and unbelievably quiet. So if you want the most powerful, lightest weight inverter generator, then this is the way to go.
Benefits of a Portable Generator
We all understand that a generator gives you electricity on demand, even when everyone else has to sit in the darkness. But there are plenty of other reasons to get them too. First and foremost, portable generators are far less expensive than their standby counterparts, meaning electricity at your fingertips is far more accessible to you.

Let’s take a look at some other reasons – that make Owning a generator a really Good idea.
If you’ve got small children or elderly living with you, then you can’t afford to allow your home to get to extreme temperatures. Use a generator during power outages to run space heaters or fans to help control temperatures.
Your home is more susceptible to security breaches during power outages. The lights are out tending to put your home at higher risk of being broken into. Running floodlights through your generator can help cut down on those risks
Sometimes blackouts can be fun; this is especially true when you have something to keep the power running during them. If you have a generator, you’ll still be able to charge your phones, listen to music, and even turn some movies on.
A lot of people like to go camping to get away from all the comforts of home, like electricity. But if you want to have some of the modern amenities still while camping, then a portable generator is a great way to accomplish that. Charge your phones, laptops, tablets and even turn the lights on when you want to keep the party going after dark.
Do you own a food truck? Or maybe you’re a contractor who does a lot of work at sites that haven’t had electricity hooked up yet. If so, a portable generator is a perfect fit for you.
While it’s true that generators offer a ton of advantages, there are still a few things that people can find frustrating about these helpful machines. Fortunately, the frustrations can be overcome with a few considerations first. Let’s take a look at some common issues people run across with portable generators and how to remedy those issues.
To help dispel the myth that all generators are LOUD – Normal speech is between 50-60 decibels. The quietest generators we review above run at 48-53 decibels for 1/4 load operation, so you can see that these models truly are considered Quiet. Take a quick look at this Decibel Chart to understand just how quiet these generators are!
You’ll commonly hear that the generator are extraordinarily expensive. And they are pretty expensive, but that is to be expected with a technology that offers so much utility. Furthermore, if you know what you’re looking for, then you can significantly cut down on the amount of money you end up spending.
For instance, if you’re only getting a generator for camping, then you might not need to purchase a top of the line generator.
If the prices of generators are getting you down, the best advice I can give you is to look at this purchase as an investment. It’s something that will last you for years to come. Whether it’s keeping you warm during blackouts caused by winter storms, or it’s powering your tools on the job site.
Another issue I see people have with generators is that they aren’t powerful enough. Again, this is mostly due to not understanding what product your product you have and what its limitations are.
Portable generators aren’t going to be able to power your entire house; some can’t even power large appliances. If that is what you are looking for, then you should opt for a stand-alone generator. Most portable generators are meant for small to medium, electronic items.
This is a big one for a lot of people, for an understandable reason too. These generators need a lot of fuel to run. If you’ve got a portable unit, you’ll need to carry 10 to 25 gallons of fuel stored in your garage. And that’s only giving you between 1 to 2 days of run-time.
If you want to use a portable generator to power refrigerators and lights (not the entire house), it is recommended that you get a generator with 5,000 watts or higher. But if you only need it for job sites, then a 3-thousand watt generator will work just fine for you.
How often are you going to be moving your generator? Is it going from job site to job site with you? If so, then you might want to find something that isn’t going to risk damaging your back every time you pick it up and take it with you. The right size to get in these cases is a 3,000 Watt generator.
One of the most critical factors is fuel economy; the last thing you want to do is have to refill the generator every couple of hours. Try and get a generator with a generously sized tank, and of course, one that consumes fuel at a reasonable rate.
